The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new Aadhaar app that allows users to smartly store their Aadhaar details on their phones and easily share necessary information with others. UIDAI announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Android users can download it from the Google Play Store, and iPhone users can get it from the Apple App Store. UIDAI stated that this new app provides a paperless experience.
UIDAI already offers an app called mAadhaar. In addition to that, this new app has now been introduced. However, unlike mAadhaar, this app does not include features like digital Aadhaar download, PVC card ordering, email/mobile verification, or Virtual ID generation. It is exclusively designed for securely storing your Aadhaar details and sharing them conveniently with others when needed.
What’s in the new app?
With this app, there’s no need to carry a physical Aadhaar card everywhere — you can access it digitally. It also allows you to store Aadhaar details of all family members on a single device.
It includes a face authentication feature.
If you wish to share your Aadhaar details with someone, you can easily do so through the app — and you can choose which specific details you want to share.
It also allows users to lock or unlock their Aadhaar biometric data.
Additionally, you can check where and when your Aadhaar details were last used directly from the app.
How to use it:
- Download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Grant the required permissions to the app and accept the terms and conditions.
- Enter the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
- After verifying your phone number, you’ll be asked to complete face authentication.
- Once all details are verified, set up a security PIN for protection.
- You can then start using the app.
